Promising Practices to Improve Latinas' Graduation Rates, a free conference call, will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 14, at 2:00 p.m. Eastern.
Latinas generally have very high aspirations for academic and career success, yet 41% of Latinas do not graduate from high school on time with a standard diploma. As a follow-up to our new report, Listening to Latinas: Barriers to High School Graduation, the National Women's Law Center and the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund are hosting a call to further explore what can be done to improve Latinas' graduation rates.
Join us for this discussion about what schools and service providers can do to ensure that each Latina student has the resources, guidance, and support she needs to be able to achieve her academic and career goals.
This call ― for educators, service providers, and advocates ― will highlight the perspectives of both an educator and a program director who have experience working to help Latina youth succeed. The call will include:
- Lara S. Kaufmann, Senior Counsel, National Women's Law Center
- Veronica Rivera, Legislative Staff Attorney, MALDEF
- Dr. Mary Jane Garza, Assistant Superintendent, West Oso School District, Texas
- Fanny Arroyo Oliveira, Director of Programs and Operations, Hispanas Organized for Political Equality (HOPE), California
