Survey - Fair Play Now: Get Girls in the Game

Every girl deserves the chance to play sports and not to be treated like a second-class citizen. Title IX is a federal law that requires schools to provide equal opportunity for girls in the classroom and on the playing field.

Thirty-five years after enactment of Title IX, girls are still given fewer opportunities to participate in sports and, when they do play, are not given equal treatment.

Please take our Get Girls in the Game survey to begin to find out if your local schools are providing a level playing field for girls in sports. While the survey does not cover every aspect of Title IX, it will give you an initial sense of whether your school is treating girls fairly.

Question - Not Required - 1. Are the fields and facilities used by girls' teams in worse condition than those used by boys' teams?

Question - Not Required - 2. Are girls' teams at your school provided uniforms and equipment of worse quality and quantity than boys' teams?

Question - Not Required - 3. Do girls' teams practice or play at less convenient times than boys' teams?

Question - Not Required - 4. Do girls at your school have less access to coaches, trainers, and medical personnel than boys?

Question - Not Required - 5. Does your school provide less publicity for girls' athletic events than it does for boys' events?

Question - Not Required - 6. Are there fewer girls than boys playing sports at your school?

Question - Not Required - 7. Are there too few girls' teams for all the girls who want to play sports to do so?

If your answered "yes" to any of the questions on this survey, or are aware of any other ways in which female athletes at your school are treated worse than male athletes, your school may not be providing a level playing field for girls in sports. Please print a copy of the survey for your own records and then hit "Submit." We will send you a thank-you e-mail with guiding steps to help you speak up for girls in your school and community.
