March Forth

Please feel free to use the text from our action alert in your own organization's communication.

Several years ago, on March 4th, children's advocates worked together to generate thousands of e-mails to Congress in support of increased investments in child care. Now, it's time to March Forth once again!

The Bush administration's proposed FY 2009 budget continues the administration's long-standing pattern of freezes or cuts to child care and early education. Under the proposed budget, 200,000 low-income children and their families would lose child care assistance and 14,000 children would lose Head Start.

On March 4th, 2008, please join the national partner organizations below as we March Forth:

  • American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees
  • American Federation of Teachers
  • Center for Law and Social Policy
  • Child Welfare League of America
  • Children's Defense Fund
  • Coalition on Human Needs
  • Community Action Partnership
  • Early Care and Education Consortium
  • Fight Crime: Invest in Kids
  • MomsRising
  • National Association for Family Child Care
  • National Association for the Education of Young Children
  • National Association of Child Care Resource and Referral Agencies
  • National Education Association
  • National Coalition for Campus Centers
  • National Council of Jewish Women
  • National Education Association
  • National Head Start Association
  • National Indian Child Care Association
  • National Indian Head Start Directors Association
  • National Migrant and Seasonal Head Start Association
  • National Women's Law Center
  • NETWORK, A National Catholic Social Justice Lobby
  • OMEP-USNC
  • Pre-K Now
  • RESULTS
  • Service Employees International Union
  • Sisters of Charity of Nazareth Congregational Leader
  • Union for Reform Judaism
  • USAction
  • Voices for America's Children
  • Wider Opportunities for Women
  • YWCA USA

On that day, NWLC, these organizations and many other groups and individuals will be asking our members, friends, and colleagues to call or e-mail Congress requesting increased investments for child care and Head Start for FY 2009 — we ask you to join us. In order to keep these two vital supports for children and families on the congressional agenda, we must continue to show Congress why these increased investments are necessary.

Please feel free to use the text from our action alert in your own organization's communication.

Thanks to AFSCME, all participating organizations will also have access to a toll-free number (1-888-460-0813) that automatically connects to the capitol switchboard.

You can also feel free to use the following images for your own web content. To use these images on your own website, download them and use them on your advocacy pages.
