Women's Day of Action for Health Care Reform

Women are making most of the health care decisions at home. So why aren't we making them in Washington, D.C.?

On November 4, 2009, women across America will make sure that our voices ring throughout the halls of the Capitol, as part of the National Women's Day of Action for Health Care Reform. One way you can make your voice heard is by contacting Congress today.

Ways you can get involved include:

Host a Health Reform House Party: We're gathering mothers, daughters, sisters, aunts, and all the women (and men) in our lives around kitchen tables and living rooms across the country to talk about what’s at stake for women in health care reform. This toolkit is a step-by-step guide to gather members of your community together, share stories and knowledge, and take action to ensure that health care reform works for women.

Plan a Women & Health Reform Trivia Night: How well do you know what women want and need? We thought so. Use our trivia guide to get your game on! You can use the trivia game to run your own trivia night at your house, school, community center or local bar. Send out invitations to your friends and family and let the show down begin.

Blog, Tweet, or Post to Facebook: Across the country, women will be speaking out through a 24-hour blog-a-thon where women join forces to blog, tweet (using hashtag #whc) or post for fair, affordable and comprehensive health care coverage.

Washington, DC Health Care Reform Vigil: NWLC will participate in our all-day vigil in Dupont Circle (from 9 am to 9 pm). We will be reading health care stories from women and families from across the country. Partner organizations have "adopted" an hour to help us read stories and volunteer during the event.

Select Youth Events Around the Country:

Join in the Y.I. Want Change Day of Action: Our partners at Young America's Campaign for Real Health Reform is hosting a day of action, offering up five more ways for young people to get involved. Y.I. is holding over 40 events on college campuses and community locations around the country.

George Washington University Student Groups: GW student organizations are gathering for an event to support health reform that works for women. The event will be held in Kogan Plaza, the central hub of campus, from 4-7 PM with representatives from the various groups reading health care stories and encouraging passersby to take action. GW groups participating include: Voices for Choices, Delta Gamma, Sigma Kappa, Chi Omega, Alpha Phi, Cheer/Dance Team, among others.
